Brendan M. Ahern is a former Homicide Prosecutor, Bureau Chief, and Executive Manager of the District Attorney's Trial Division who focuses his practice on personal injury, wrongful death, and criminal defense in federal and state court.Brendan M. Ahern is a uniquely experienced, and exceptionally accomplished trial attorney. Mr. Ahern most recently served as an Executive Leader in the District Attorney's Office, supervising the hundreds of attorneys, paralegals, investigators, and staff members of the Criminal Trial Division. He is the only attorney to have served as a Chief and Deputy Chief in the respective Suffolk and Nassau District Attorneys' Vehicular Crimes Bureaus supervising, investigating, and serving as the lead trial attorney on some of the most significant trials on Long Island and New York State during the last 15 years.
Mr. Ahern concentrates his practice on personal injury and wrongful death, including vehicular accidents, pedestrian accidents, motorcycle accidents, and catastrophic incidents involving commercial vehicles, medical malpractice, premises liability, and civil rights actions pursuant to 42 USC 1983. With his tremendous depth of experience in the criminal justice system, Mr. Ahern also provides criminal defense for individuals and corporations in federal and state court including white collar financial crimes, public corruption, homicide, conspiracy, and other serious criminal offenses and investigations.
Experienced, respected, an aggressive advocate and consummate professional, Mr. Ahern has developed a reputation as a problem solver. He has prevailed in high-profile, high-stakes trials described by the media as "rare and difficult to prove", secured the dismissal of numerous homicide indictments, and negotiated strategic outcomes for clients and achieved results that have garnered regional and national media attention. Mr. Ahern has been recognized by numerous professional associations of attorneys and peers for his trial achievements. He is presently a Board Member of the Suffolk County Criminal Court Bar Association.Because of his substantial trial experience, organizations and other attorneys have turned to him to prosecute or defend some of the most challenging cases on their dockets, and have engaged him just months or weeks before trial to take over as lead trial counsel.
Mr. Ahern trained along experts in a variety of investigative techniques, forensic disciplines, and advanced trial advocacy skills related to accident investigations. He has served as a statewide faculty instructor with the New York State Prosecutors Training Institute on topics such as Accident Investigation and Reconstruction, DWI Investigation, Advanced Trial Skills, Jury Selection, Communicating with Victims, and Legal Ethics. He taught related topics at the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Academies. Over his career he has lead and participated in the investigation of thousands of DWIs and accidents involving pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists, cars, trucks, and commercial vehicles resulting in injury or death.
Mr. Ahern has been recognized as a national and regional leader in the law. In 2021, he was invited to be a featured panel speaker on the topic of ethics at Hofstra Law’s Monroe H. Freedman Institute for the Study of Legal Ethics. In 2020, he was honored to be the recipient of the Robert M. Morgenthau Prosecutor of the Year Award from the the District Attorney Association of the State of NY. The award is given annually to one regional prosecutor that personifies a commitment to integrity and the tireless pursuit of justice. Also that year he was recognized by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as the National Prosecutor of the Year.Mr. Ahern received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Villanova University and his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was a recipient of the Judge Edward J.
